NAD 310 Integrated Amplifier NAD has already discontinued this model, so I don’t know why I’m even writing this review. However, if you lucky like me and happen to find this unit hidden in the backroom of some hi-fi shop, then read on. I first learned of this amp in the UK audiophile magazine, Hifi Choice (all non-American audio enthusiasts should be familiar with it). I didn’t get the chance to read their review on this unit because it was on a back issue, but the 310 was given a "Best Buy" Award on their Buyer’s Guide. Well, after listening to some music on this unit, I couldn’t agree more. In all honesty, the 310 will probably not attract you with its simple features on NAD’s trademark gray faceplate. That is unless you are a minimalist like myself, and dig NAD's use of color (or tone rather, and note the use of singular form). For controls you get your regular tonal adjustments with a tone defeat button, volume, and input selectors. There is no remote controller, so you’ll have to get off the couch to adjust the volume yourself, but that shouldn’t deter you from buying this unit (really). However, if you overlook these lack of amenities, what you will find is a no-nonsense machine that sets out to do what it was intended to do—to amplify sound with crystal clarity. Verdict? The 310 is definitely the best budget amp out there. For around $300 Cdn., you can’t go wrong with this piece of UK engineering. |
